Proudly sponsoring Mandela8
19 July 2023
This year Torus Group is once again proud to be an official sponsor of Mandela8.
Mandela8 was established to commemorate the life of Nelson Mandela through the creation of a permanent memorial in Princes Park, Liverpool 8.
On Tuesday 18 July, which also marks the annual Mandela Day that honours his life and legacy, guests, local organisations and community members gathered to witness the official opening of the Nelson Mandela memorial.
The crowd were also joined by Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter Tukwini Mandela and daughter Dr Makaziwe Mandela who commented,
“I think what my father fought for was the unity or spirit of self, of family, of neighbourhood, of society, of community and I think as we come to celebrate on this bridge, we have to understand that bridges are created to form alliances across the world.”
Momentous work
Cath Murray-Howard, Chief Operating Officer from Torus Group said,
“Torus Group continues its commitment to collaborate with and build upon diverse neighbourhoods and we are thrilled to once again be part of the momentous work being undertaken by Mandela8. As we celebrate the official opening of the Nelson Mandela Memorial, a milestone that Torus is delighted to have supported, we are reminded of the pride taken in championing initiatives that drive community growth.
“Teams across the Group are dedicated to continue the support being delivered through projects that enhance opportunities, and together, see the memorial as a symbol of unity, resilience while working towards a brighter future for all.”
As a key supporter, Steve Coffey, Torus Group CEO was invited to speak at the unveiling,
“On behalf of Torus, I would like to say how humbled and honoured we are to be involved in today’s event and the creation of the memorial. I’m immensely proud that our city has done the memorial and we’re really grateful to Mandela8 and the Mandela family and the community, who have allowed us to be part of it."
