Celebrating being recognised at this year’s North West Regional Construction Awards (NWRCA), HMS is thrilled to be taking home two awards and claiming top spot in both the Conservation and Regeneration and Value categories for its redevelopment of the iconic Allerton Fire and Police Station.
A building made famous in The Beatles song, Penny Lane, HMS is on site transforming the vacant building into a modern housing scheme that will see 7 homes and a 40-unit independent living scheme for over 55s built as part of housing Group, Torus’, £5 million investment in the site.
Winning the Conservation and Regeneration Award for its sensitive preservation of a number of original features and its use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), HMS’ refurbishment and extension of the building has seen the newly christened Station Mews commended by judges. Utilising offsite construction and working with partners, Smartroof, this is HMS’ first foray into MMC and not only has it seen the team improve the schemes green credentials, but its build programme, condensing a 120-day process into just 11 days.
Also winning NWRCA’s Value Award which highlighted Station Mews’ importance in terms of regenerating and preserving a historic local landmark, HMS’ commitment to embedding social value into its projects was evident. Repurposing the buildings for future homeowners and the wider community to enjoy as well as generating thousands of pounds in profit for Torus’ charitable arm, Torus Foundation, to reinvest in social initiatives, Station Mews clearly showcases HMS’ dedication to creating schemes that benefit local areas in numerous ways.
Discussing HMS’ latest award wins, Managing Director, Paul Worthington, said: “It’s wonderful to be recognised for the hard work we have put into Station Mews and for the team's dedication to the project rewarded. Their innovation and professional curiosity has seen this scheme progress in ways we could never have imagined when we started and to see MMC incorporated into the development seamlessley is brilliant and the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our commitment to becoming a greener and more efficient developer.
