Torus’ Christmas Campaign to make festive season more special for most vulnerable customers

09 December 2022

This year’s Christmas Campaign by Torus Group has raised over £6,280 to assist some of the Group’s most vulnerable older customers, who may not only be lonely at Christmas but may also be struggling financially during the cost-of-living crisis.

Challenging time

Every year, teams across the Torus Group are dedicated to providing support to tenants and residents who live in its 40,000 properties in the Liverpool City Region and in the wider North West. Torus understands that many of its tenants are facing a challenging time right now, especially leading up to Christmas.

The monies raised were as a result of the incredible generosity of colleagues across the organisation and the companies the Group works with on a regular basis.

In addition to donations through Just Giving, teams and local supermarkets also kindly contributed various food items and gift items. Santa’s helpers (aka Torus Group colleagues) have been preparing hundreds of gift bags and spent the last week delivering these to Torus customers.

Extremely proud

Steve Coffey, Torus Group Chief Executive Officer comments:

“We are extremely proud of the efforts that our teams make to deliver for our tenants and communities.

“This year’s Christmas Campaign has been a success thanks to colleagues across Torus, Torus Foundation, Torus Developments and HMS coming together to strengthen the impact. From the kind donations, important customer referrals and encouraging local businesses to get involved, each element has contributed to help Christmas be a little more special for some of our vulnerable older Torus customers.”

One of the older customers benefitting from the campaign was referred after highlighting, in a support call, that they were extremely lonely. Not receiving a gift, at Christmas since her son passed away, she was delighted to be thought of this Christmas.

Above and Beyond

Cath Murray Howard, Torus Group Chief Operating Officer adds:

“Our teams take great pride in getting behind our Christmas Campaign and, this year, the outcome reflects the values of the Torus Group; We Own It, We Care, We Deliver.

“Most of the older tenants referred for a gift were highlighted as living alone, which no doubt motivated teams to increase support for the campaign even further. More monies and essential items were received than the campaign initially aimed for. This is down to those involved going above and beyond in their efforts.”

Extra support

As a result of the success of the campaign, gift bags are also going to be delivered to residents living across Torus’ single person hostels and teams are looking into ways to provide additional support to vulnerable older customers over the wider Winter period.

In addition to this targeted support, all Torus tenants and residents are encouraged to contact the team if they are struggling, especially at this time of year. Torus’ Customer Hub is on hand to signpost customers to teams across Torus and Torus Foundation for advice relating to rent payments and making the most of the household income, accessing food pantries, opportunities to find work or build skills and more.
