Homegrown HMS Talent – Robert's Story

28 December 2023

Working with HMS since the age of 16, Robert knew that several careers were available to him within the business and dove straight into a Quantity Surveying Apprenticeship when opportunity came knocking.

“I was happy at HMS and knew everyone was friendly and supportive so when the latest round of apprenticeships opened up, I went for it. I wanted to be in a career that offered me the chance to learn and progress and that’s exactly what I knew the apprenticeship would offer me.

“I’ve always been interested in working in the housing and construction sector and wanted to be more closely involved in the New Build projects HMS heads up. I’m enjoying getting a taste for the role and working with the team – who are all sound – and are giving me a full insight into what I’ll be doing when I’m fully qualified.”

As part of his apprenticeship, Robert is being funded through a university degree, as well as receiving on-the-job training and is well on his way to achieving his ambition of becoming a Quantity Surveyor.

“I wanted more for myself and to get into a career that gave me more opportunities to develop and become qualified in something I had a genuine interest in. So far, so good, and I can honestly say I’m happy I took the plunge and applied for an apprenticeship.”
