HMS is thrilled to welcome 14 new apprentices to the organisation and continue showcasing its commitment to creating sustainable, long-term employment and training opportunities.

As a committed local investor with roots in Liverpool, St Helens and Warrington, HMS has a long history of creating trade and technical apprenticeships, helping people start a career in the construction industry and today officially marks the appointment of over 100 apprentices to HMS since amalgamating with the Torus Group at the beginning of 2019.

Representing a further quarter of a million-pound investment in the creation of more apprenticeship roles, all 14 apprentices will now begin learning a skilled trade and start their 3-year apprenticeship as either an Electrician, Joiner, Plasterer or Plumber.

Meeting all new apprentices and personally welcoming them to HMS, Managing Director, Paul Worthington, said: “As a business, we know apprenticeships are vital to filling the ever-growing skills gap evident in the construction industry and commit, annually, to welcoming new talent to HMS through our apprenticeship scheme.

“I’m delighted to see this new cohort join the organisation and can’t wait to see how they make this opportunity work for them. Over the years, we have seen so many apprentices progress through the business to take on leadership roles, so I know the future is positive for everyone who joins us today."

HMS is proud to support the customers and clients that we work with by increasing access to valuable employment and skills opportunities. This includes Torus’ charitable arm, Torus Foundation, with its aim to ‘grow stronger communities’.

Dan Bamford, Head of Employment and Skills, at Torus Foundation explains, “For those enrolled as an apprentice for HMS, the partnership with the Foundation is key. By working together, the team's co-ordinate the programme to a high standard and provide vital mentoring support, maximising impact and outcomes for each apprentice.

“We’re thrilled to see that some of the successful apprentices include some of the participants who have completed the Foundation’s Women in Construction and previous Women in Civil Engineering programmes, and that HMS is able to provide an opportunity for their learning and hands on experience to continue growing.”

Lisa, Apprentice Plumber adds, “I’m loving the apprenticeship so far, Torus Foundation and HMS have been very supportive to get me here. From the Foundation helping me to break down the barriers to even get me started, support to prepare and apply for the role, to HMS taking me on and assigning me with a fantastic buddy who I’m able to work closely with and learn from.

“I have goals and aspirations to build my skills and career and I’m proud of my journey taken to get to where I am now. As well as being able to show my children what can be achieved, I’d like to be able to empower other women to take on such roles.”
