Warm Home Discount Scheme 2023/24

The Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2023 to 2024 opened on 16 October 2023.
Warm Home Discount is a one-off payment to reduce eligible customers’ bills over the winter months.
You could get £150 off your electricity bill for winter 2023 to 2024 under the Warm Home Discount Scheme.
The money is not paid to you - it’s a one-off discount applied to your electricity bill between early October 2023 and 31 March 2024.
How to get the discount
Due to scheme reforms, if you are eligible, you’ll receive a letter between November 2023 and January 2024 telling you about the discount - there is no need to apply. Most eligible households will receive an automatic discount. Your letter will say if you need to call a helpline by 28 February 2024 to confirm your details. If you’re eligible, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill by 31 March 2024.
Who is eligible:
There are two groups that qualify for this payment automatically, providing that your energy provider is part of the scheme and your name, or your partners name is on the energy bill.
Group one: Get the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit.
Group two: To qualify:
- Must be in receipt of a means tested benefit or Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit
- Energy Cost Score - your property must have a high energy cost score to be eligible. This is not based on the actual costs of your energy bill. Its calculated based on your property type, age, floor space and its general energy efficiency rating (on your Energy Performance Certificate EPC, see below).
Eligibility is determined by an individual’s circumstances on the qualification date (13 August 2023).
If you do not get a letter:
Contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme if you do not get the letter by mid-January 2024 and you think you’re eligible. The Warm Home Discount helpline opened for calls from 16 October 0800 030 9322.

IMPORTANT: Getting your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
In January 2023, following a Government Decision, Homes rated C (EPC C rating it means it's been built using energy-efficient building methods or the home's fabric has been upgraded, (which are most Torus homes) do no longer qualify for the Warm Home Discount.
Tenants have no reason to contact Torus to obtain the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), as it's already been registered with gov.uk. You can find and check your EPC on their website:

Please only contact Torus Customer Hub if you are unable to locate your EPC directly with gov.uk and you feel you fit the eligibility criteria detailed above and on the WHD website.
