New modern homes for over 55s in Warrington

27 April 2021

Surrounded by open Cheshire countryside and set in an established community, North West housing group, Torus, latest over 55s development in Appleton, Broomfields will provide contemporary living for older people in Warrington.

Sarah Houghton-Grimshaw, Torus Supported Housing Commissioning Manager, said:

“We are excited to see work starting on site. This new scheme will offer brand new purpose built modern homes with the over 55s in mind, ideal for those looking to downsize to a smaller, more manageable home, amongst people of a similar age.

“We hope that the new Broomfields development will soon become an asset to the community.”

The £4.5million Broomfields scheme will offer 45 modern, spacious one and two-bedroom homes for affordable rent, as well as boasting private, on-site car parking, a communal lounge, lift, landscaped gardens and repairs service. The scheme is well connected with easy access to local amenities.

Chris Bowen, Managing Director of Torus Developments, said:

“Like the rest of the country, there is a marked need for genuinely affordable housing that meets the everchanging needs of an ageing population, in the North West. As a Group, building homes people can afford and that allows them to live well is central to everything we do.

“Broomfields is the latest scheme Torus is regenerating in order to provide our tenants and communities with modern, safe and secure homes that will offer individuals a place that will grow and change with them, seamlessly, over the years.”

The ‘new’ Broomfields scheme on the site of the old Broomfields which closed in 2019, which despite years of regular investment, was no longer fit for purpose and failed to meet the standards expected of a modern care facility. The plans for the new development were shared with residents and local Councillors.

The development was part-funded by Homes England and sees Broomfields join Torus’s growing portfolio of specialist homes across the North West. Work is expected by to be completed in Spring 2022.

The contractors on the scheme are Caddick Construction Ltd, working with John McCall Architects and structural engineers White Young Green.
