Your Home, Your Safety: Tenant’s safety guide
21 April 2021
Every tenant and resident has the right to a decent, safe home and from this month, every Torus tenant will receive a copy of ‘Your Home, Your Safety’ a new Torus health and safety guide, which explains the steps we take to keep you, your family, neighbours and your home safe.
Torus Group Head of Assets & Compliance, explains why the guide was developed;
“The guide was developed in response to the Government’s ‘The Charter for Social Housing Residents’ White Paper, which aims to make major reforms to support housing customers in England and was a direct response to the tragic events at Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
“It focuses on health and safety and customer involvement in how we deliver their services, focusing on themes of Health and Safety and placing a greater emphasis on tenant satisfaction, engagement and how we listen to our tenants in the delivery of our services.”
Managing Director (Housing), Gill Healey, added;
“Our tenants have the right to be listened to and have their views heard on decisions that may affect their home, their community and their safety.
“This emphasis is very much aligned with Torus priorities. We already have a clear vision for tenant engagement, with Tenant Voice, a dedicated team of staff and involved customers, which looks to ensure that tenants are at the heart of everything we do.”
The guide was developed with 26 involved customers through our Tenant Voice Team and outlines safety information, the responsibility of both Torus and that of the tenant and covers, gas, fire, electrical, asbestos, water, lifts, communal areas and seasonal safety.
Involved tenants commented;
“I found the booklet very informative clear and precise on all subjects, tenants will be reassured Torus are on the ball and reliable at all stages.”
“It looks good, clear to the eye, and easy to understand.”
“It makes it clear that tenants have some responsibilities under safety and we must play our part.”
