HMS is in the Sky with Diamonds at Allerton Fire and Police Station

HMS is celebrating ‘topping out’ at Allerton Fire and Police Station and is officially marking a new chapter for the building, famously immortalised by The Beatles in their track, Penny Lane.

An iconic Liverpool landmark, the team has transformed the once vacant site to create a highly sought-after affordable housing scheme for regeneration Group, Torus, which will see 40 apartments and 7 homes handed over early next year.

Installing a modular Mansard Roof on the Police Station, this is the first of HMS’ New Build sites featuring this innovative technology. Constructed off-site and fitted in less than two weeks, the revolutionary system has sped up the build process and is a more sustainable solution to traditional construction techniques.

Highlighting the beginning of HMS’ journey to becoming a net zero carbon organisation, the newly christened Station Mews is the first time Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) have been integrated into one of HMS’ developments and sees the building brought squarely into the 21st century.

Discussing ‘topping out’ at Allerton Fire and Police Station, Construction Director, John Barrow, said: “It’s a privilege to be regenerating this iconic building and to be giving it a new lease of life. It’s fantastic to be integrating MMC into a landmark scheme and see an older building modernised in such a unique and exciting way. This ‘topping out’ ceremony is a major milestone for the scheme itself and HMS – showcasing how we are working towards becoming greener and more sustainable across our development portfolio.”

Continuing, Torus Group Chief Executive, Steve Coffey, said: “Allerton Fire and Police Station is a notable scheme for Torus and highlights how committed we are to working with the fabric of local communities, not against it. This building is a true local landmark and one I know means a lot to the people of the area, so I am proud to see just how much it has been transformed and the fantastic work HMS has done to get it to this point.”
