Torus Dragon Boat Race competitors raise £2000 for local hospice
29 July 2022
Congratulations to colleagues from across the Torus Group who raised more than £2,000 for St Rocco’s Hospice after taking part in the Dragon Boat Race.
St Rocco’s Hospice Dragon Boat Race returned to Warrington on Sunday 24 July after two years of cancellations. Torus joined organisations from across the north west taking to the River Mersey for a battle of strength and coordination.
With two Torus teams going head-to-head at this year’s event, it was a nail-biting photo finish with Titans just pipping Firecrackers to the post by less than one second in an exciting third heat. It was the Biking Rowers, a group of cyclists from Orford, who were this year’s winners.
Of course, the day isn’t all about winning, it’s the taking part which counts. Volunteers, colleagues and family were there to provide support and much-needed refreshments and snacks to keep racers going over three heats.
Torus Development Project Manager and Titans dragon boat team captain, Nina Walsh, said:
“What a fantastic day! Well done to everyone who took part in the race, and thanks to volunteers, partners, family and friends who supported on the day or donated to such a vital service.”
Event Organiser at St Rocco’s Hospice, Charlotte Howard, said:
“It was great to see the return of this event and to see so many people come down to Warrington Rowing Club to cheer the teams on!
“St Rocco’s would like to say a big thank you to Torus for their brilliant fundraising efforts. All money raised will make sure we can continue supporting people with life-limiting conditions, both at home and in our hospice.”
