Torus invests £6.6 million in latest St Helens Development
14 November 2023
Starting delivering in earnest on its commitments to invest in and regenerate eight sites in St Helens, Torus is thrilled to be mobilising its Somerset Street site and build 40 new homes in Parr.
Investing £6.6 million into the scheme and building 28 2-bedroom houses, 10 3-bedroom houses and 2 2-bedroom bungalows, Torus will lead the complete transformation of the area and use its latest standard house types to bring a number of new, efficient, modern homes to St Helens.
A site synonymous with anti-social behaviour and fly tipping, Somerset Street has been identified by Torus, St Helens Council and other key stakeholders as an area that would truly benefit from investment.
With all homes available via Affordable Rent and Rent to Buy, Torus are working to galvanise both economic and social change at Somerset Street and across the wider St Helens region. Through investing in the creation of several apprenticeship opportunities and community-led support via the Torus Foundation, Somerset Street is the latest scheme that will benefit the local community as well as just the people who will move into the new homes.
Discussing Somerset Street, Director of Development and Technical, Steve Alcock, said:
“As a Group, Torus is far more than just a developer, it works with communities to deliver schemes that benefit all and create true grassroots change.
“Modern, affordable, high-quality homes are, literally and metaphorically, the building blocks of a fairer, more equitable society and we’re thrilled to be delivering not only this scheme, but seven others across the Borough as part of our Area Action Plan that will deliver myriad of opportunities to the people of Fingerpost and Parr.”
HMS Construction Director, John Barrow, continued: “This is the ninth scheme we have built in St Helens for Torus, and it is one that I feel will create the most positive change for the local area. We’re thrilled to have been appointed to this project and know that the team’s expertise will see a modern, efficient scheme built that will give Somerset Street a new lease of life.”
