Torus receives second internationally acclaimed Health and Safety Award

13 April 2023

The North West’s largest provider of affordable homes, Torus, is celebrating being awarded the internationally acclaimed Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Health and Safety Award for its health and safety practices – for the second year in a row.

The largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the country, the RoSPA Health and Safety Awards recognises Torus’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work and its dedication to investing in and maintaining its health and safety systems.

With health and safety essential to Torus’ operations, RoSPA identified how the team embed best practice approaches into delivery, at all levels, and how leadership and colleagues work collaboratively to share learnings, improve and upskill employees to keep health and safety at the core of all services.

Ian Beesley, Group Head of Health, Safety and Environment, said:

“Following last year’s award, we’re thrilled to have maintained the standard we set and once again achieve Gold Level. As a team and Group, we work to consistently improve and develop our processes and response to health and safety to ensure that it remains central to how we operate, across the Group. So, it is reassuring that RoSPA continues to see the value in everything we do to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of colleagues, tenants and communities.

“As we continue to develop our health and safety culture to meet the growing demands of the Group, it’s fantastic to know we are already delivering at a level that we can be proud of and that is effective in creating an environment that supports and safeguards everyone."

Julia Small, RoSPA’s Achievements Director, said:

“Accidents at work and work-related ill health don’t just have huge financial implications or cause major disruption – they significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. That’s why good safety performance deserves to be recognised and rewarded.

“We are thrilled that HMS has won a RoSPA Award and would like to congratulate them on showing an unwavering commitment to keeping their employees, clients and customers safe from accidental harm and injury.”

The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest running of its kind in the UK, and receives entries from organisations across the globe, making it one of the most sought-after achievement awards for the health and safety industry.
